BMW's

E30 chassis are the 3 series cars from 1984 - 1991 (1992 for convertibles) This includes the 318i, 318is, 325, 325e, 325es, 325i, 325is, 325ix, and M3

The engine codes for the above is M20 in 2.5L and 2.7L (6 cyl 325e and 325i) M10 in the 318i (4 cyl in 1984 and 85) and S14 4 cyl in the M3. Also, the 1991 318is had a M42 4 cyl.

E28 are the 5 series cars from 1982 - 1988. Includes the 528e, 533i, 535i, 535is. The 6 series cars from 1984 - 1989 are very similar to the E28 5ers. The "6" chassis is the E24 and includes the 633csi, 635csi, and M6.  E23 7 series cars of the same era share the same engine and various other parts.

The engines here are the same M20 2.7L 6 cyl in the 528e and then the M30 "big six" 3.5L in the 535i and 6 series cars.
